Just got back from Vj. Attended their co practice for today. Really enjoyed myself. Quite a good environment there. However, the songs they played was scary.
When I was initially handed the scores, I was aghast! Not at the difficulty of the scores, but my inability to play them well. Practically lost all my skills after like 6 mths of not playing the erhu. Took me some time to get used to the fingering and stuff. Managed to recover part of my playing style.
If I had gotten it bad, it became WORSE. I was issued another 2 scoresheets. Furthermore, they were issued during practice, where everyone from all sections would be playing under a conductor. Given like 5 min to prac each one on the spot.
Thank god I'd mastered my D and G Majors during sec school. They were not as difficult as the first scoresheet (which had B flat, A, C, F,G and D). Played at least 85% of each through sight-reading.
But I enjoyed the people there. Quite friendly and helpful.(1 reason why its better to be a Victorian in VJ than in VS) Also, the quality of VJCO was almost twice that of VSCO, even though it was halved in numbers.
Really hope I can get to VJ though its a difficult task. At least now I'd be busy on wednesdays and fridays. Something to fill my time during the hols.
Here's a reminder to all O lvl takers. RMB to fill in ur PAE.
